Kerry Packer, the richest man in Australia, died on the Boxing Day last year. Today is his memorial service at Sydney Opera House. Prime Minister, politicians, actors, actresses, business people and all those important people showed up to pay their respects. I also respect Kerry Packer in a way, not many people can become one of the richest in a country, they must have some extraordinary strengthes do become one.

However, the thing I don’t understand is why is this memorial service is paied by taxpayers? Kerry Packer was one of the richest men in this country. Surely, his family can afford a such memorial service without any problem, why does the government want to chip in? Who gives the government the right to use taxpayers’ money to pay for his service?

There are so many things need to be fixed, need to be improved, many hospitals and schools need more funds, and so many people needs support from the government. And yet, the government decided to pay for the memorial service for the richest man in Australia?! The government should have known better, there are other more important things urgently need those money.

The general public had already done enough to help Kerry Packer to become a rich man, they bought his newspaper, watched his TV station, and bought his magazines. I just cannot see the reason why they should pay for his memorial service as well. This is just stupid!
